Fortune CookieFortune Cookie
Sadie Hoffmiller has always liked things to be just so. A place for everything and everything in its place. Order over chaos. And of all things Sadie should be able to control, her own wedding is at the top of the list.

With the big day just three weeks away, Sadie is busily adding the final touches to her wedding plans but the arrival of a mysterious letter from San Francisco changes everything. The only person Sadie knows in San Francisco is her older sister, Wendy, whom she hasn’t seen since their mother’s funeral nearly fifteen years ago.

Sadie has faced off against murderers and criminals in recent years, yet the possibility of reconnecting with her sister is both overwhelming and frightening. Sadie soon discovers, however, that the letter is just the beginning when Wendy’s world turns out to be a place of unanswered questions, twisted truths, and more than one person with a motive for murder.

The more Sadie digs into her sister’s past, the more she places her own future at risk.

Week 10: #STS – New To My Shelf!! #Books #Reading

sweeping_me_mailbox (1)

Thank you Tynga’s Reviews for hosting!

I hope your week has been wonderful! I hope you read lots of books. Most of all, I hope you enjoyed them all.

Early in the week I received the final installment of K.J. Wignall’s series The Mercian Trilogy – Death. I have been eagerly wanting this and got a gift card to amazon and used it for this purchase. I just love this series so much. But, and there is a BUT, two things had me upset about this. ONE – the book cover doesn’t match the rest of the US series. The Death cover is U.K. so it’s mismatched – disappointing to say the least and TWO – there is a rip in the pages (about 4) I guess from sending it in the mail.

Here’s  a peak:

So yes…. /////DISAPPOINTED!!!!

What can you do? Yes, I know send it back. But, that doesn’t change the cover – Here are the US covers for the first two in the series:

See the difference? Oh, what’s that, you say, you have no idea what the UK covers look like? Here you go:

Yes, I would prefer them all to be uniformed in their covers.

I will stop whining now! =)

beloved enemyBlurb: She’s the unlikeliest vampire hunter ever. A scientist.

Seventeen-year-old science prodigy Genevieve Quinn never thought she would be kidnapped from her college campus by a vampire. Or that said vampire would want her help on a science project. Genevieve has no intention of complying, but when an escape attempt turns deadly, it is a vampire that comes to her rescue.

Vampire Chad Matthews is an atypical specimen. He’s good-looking, in a dangerous kind of way. But that’s not what attracts Genevieve… it’s the shadows behind his eyes. As Genevieve and Chad team up to find a way to defeat a monster even worse than killer vampires, she discovers that not everything can be explained by science—like falling in love.

Beatrice Reece, Lady Fenwick, has retired from polite society. Everyone knows her late husband treated her abominably, and she simply cannot bear the whispers of the ton. But it’s the night of London’s premier masquerade ball-and Beatrice’s one chance to revel in anonymity. She hopes no one will recognize her beneath her mask, not even the sinfully sexy stranger across the room who holds her captive in his gaze . . .

Andrew Sinclair would know beautiful Beatrice anywhere from the gentle sway of her hips, the richness of her hair, and the lushness of her body. When he asks her to dance, the attraction is instant and all-consuming. The only woman he’s ever truly wanted is finally in his arms. But when the clock strikes twelve, will this one reckless night fade into the morning light?

Nell knows a secret about her perfect, beautiful sister Layla. If she tells, it could blow their world apart.

When Nell and Layla were little, Nell used to call them Nellaya. Because to Nell, there was no difference between where she started and her adored big sister ended. They’re a unit; divorce made them rely on each other early on, so when one pulls away, what is the other to do? But now, Nell’s a freshman in high school and Layla is changing, secretive. And then Nell discovers why. Layla is involved with one of their teachers. And even though Nell tries to support Layla, to understand that she’s happy and in love, Nell struggles with her true feelings: it’s wrong, and she must do something about it.

That was my week. How did yours go? Let me know so I can come check it out!
Have a great week of reading!

Thank you all who participated in the Mental Health Giveaway Hop and the Fool for Books Hop!!

I hope we do the Mental Health Hop again. I think there needs to be more understanding and realization that this is an issue that many people face. Something is miss firing in the brain and causes these issues. IT’S not that persons fault but we need to be aware of the signs and symptoms and get treatment to help that person. I hope you enjoyed the books I picked and hopefully I will have some more great books next time the hop happens. So without further ADO:

Winner of the Mental Health Hop is:

Tori W.

Winner of the Fool for Books Hop is:

I LOVE @RITEAID!!! #Deals this week & $19 in +Up Rewards Back!! #Coupons #Deal

Well, another week – another deal. Or so they say. I had the misfortune of losing $9 by one day in +UpRewards. Yes, I kept thinking that they ended on the 12th of this month but what happened is that they expried on the 9th. A day late because I was going on the 10th and that is when I found out that they expired. So, I called up and after a bit of…explaining they agreed to help me by mailing them out to me. It was a one time deal and I appreciated it and now they print my +UpRewards on my receipt! Which helps A LOT!

Here is what I purchased:

4 Bottles TRESemme
2 Bottles of Anacin
2 Colgate Toothpastes
1 Bottle of Allegra Allergy

Coupons Used:

4 $2 off TRESemme
2 $2 off Anacin
1 $2 off Colgate Toothpastes
1 $5 off Allegra

Total was $31.51 with $19 back in +UPRewards —BUT— I got $5 cash back because the $5 +UPReward didn’t print out with my coupons as per ad. So total was $25.51 with $19 back in +UpRewards. Still a win for me because I-ME-I needed allergy medication. I am a mess this year with the allergies. So, thought I would try this out.

How is your couponing going?

$2.00 off any Anacin product

#Book Tour: Spotlight & #Excerpt from The Gift of the Phoenix by Donna Cook & #Giveaway!!!

gift of phoenix tour

Tour Schedule

Gift of the PhoenixGift of the Phoenix

When three strangers are brought together by the discovery of a common enemy, they must fight to keep the magic of the Phoenix out of dangerous hands before their world is destroyed forever. The Three must learn to unite in spite of what separates them, and unlock the magic of three stones that seem to harm as much as they help. But uniting will not be easy for Nicolai, the simple peasant with a powerful secret; Marcellus, the warrior prince who’s no longer heir to the throne; and Corren, a gifted wizard whose ambitions threaten to ruin them all. Full of magic, mystery, and a touch of romance, Gift of the Phoenix is an epic fantasy that takes the reader deep into the heart of a wondrous world and the three men destined to defend it.

They were shown to rooms by a page in a uniform. Corren disappeared into one and Nicolai entered the next, his mind in a haze. The page shut the door, and Nicolai stood alone in the center. He was aware of a rug under his feet, a bed with linens, a slender window, and a fireplace with a fire already ignited in its belly. The room was cold, the heat from the fire not yet warming the place where Nicolai stood.

Nicolai took out his stone.

It glinted in the firelight, a stunning yellow, cool in his hands, deep at its core. Nicolai remembered a line from the prophecy: Each stone has secrets only its bearer can unlock. Given what his stone had already done, did he want to know its power? If they were meant to stop this Cunning One, just what was he going to be asked to do? Part of him slid into the stone’s depths, and Nicolai could not resist it.

Praise for Gift of the Phoenix

“An incredibly impressive book that grips you from the very start. There is plenty of action in the story, some wonderful characters and magical, atmospheric settings. Donna has created a fascinating realm in this story which, even if you don’t consider yourself a fantasy fan, you’ll definitely enjoy.” – Excerpt of Stephanie Dagg’s review at Books Are Cool.

“As an avid reader of fantasy, I often encounter boring or overused plotlines—this was neither! With a fresh new take on fantasy adventure, Cook constructs an enchanting world of magic, kingdoms, rebirth, and death.” – Excerpt a review by Artemis at Fantasy Book Lovers Unite

“Gift of the Phoenix reminds me of a mix of Paolin’s Eragon and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, but stands on its own as a unique fantasy-adventure. Cook creates a magic system that is intricate and unique, which can be hard to do in a genre littered with magic. The story is very complex, and yet very easy to follow… layers upon layers of intertwined plots that all culminate to a fantastic ending. I would recommend this book to anyone of any age.” – Excerpt of a review by Will Wortner at Zero2Fiction

#Facebook Friday’s – #Giveaways to Enter

Thank you one and all for the prayers. The MRI machine that they used was not the full body one, nor the scary open one I had on previous occasions – instead it was like a donut. Having the opposite end open, so I could see “through” really helped a lot! It turned out there were 4 tests, 2 with and 2 without contrast. They set you up for them by putting in an IV because they are not letting you out between them. We checked the contrast dye to make sure there wasn’t anything I was allergic to in it and I did feel better knowing I would not have a reaction like I did with the CAT scan. And then the magic words… if you don’t move … I could have you out of there in an hour. They gave me earplugs and an eye mask, and it was cold in there (which I loved) and I didn’t move a muscle, and even sometimes felt myself holding my breath till the machine stopped between the scans.

I think it went well. I only have been called about the neck ones and they were “normal”. I haven’t heard about the others, but I am thinking, no news is good news. I do know that when little Josh had his cancer test, they called in about 2 hours, so I know that if something was bad or needed immediate attention I would have heard by now.

The majority of Facebook Giveaways do require you LIKE their page, and maybe even their post to enter, and to win. Some require you to keep liking them through the entire contest to be declared a winner, some don’t. I always stay liking them at least for the duration of the contest, and beyond because I find they usually continue to have contests to enter.

Disclosure: Facebook contests are not associated in any way with Facebook itself — and you are providing your information to the giveaway sponsor. Additionally, I am not paid to do these listings, nor am I influenced by any person as to which ones I chose – all of the information provided here is unbiased and totally 100% my opinion.
