Book Blurb:
Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story…

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

My Opinion:
I absolutely LOVED this book. It has to be, by far, the best read for me for 2012. Kendare Blake is a writer to be watched. She spins an amazing tale of love, ghosts, horror and the OMG did that just happen? – novel that I have read in a very long time. In fact, when I was finished reading it, all I wanted to do was read it again. VERY few novels have ever done that. I love the cast of characters even the annoying ones did some good in this book. Cas and his mother are used to having to travel around to kill ghosts. Cas has never faced a ghost he couldn’t kill, that is until he meets Anna and his whole life changes. He is not sure why Anna didn’t kill him or even why he can’t seem to be able to kill her and let her move on. And along the way he finds out why he can’t and what happens changes how he feels about her. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I can tell you that I am kicking myself for not getting it sooner. If you like ghost stories, horror, romance and twists and turns, you will love this book. If you like a page turner then this is the one for you. All I have to say is – GET. THIS. BOOK.

A Quote from Anna Dressed in Blood:
“I peek over the back of the couch and there she is, my goddess of death, her hair snaking out in a great black cloud, her teeth grinding hard enough to make living gums bleed.”

I give Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake 5 of 5 stars and would rate it higher if I could. Also, best book of 2012 for me!

About the Author:
Kendare Blake is an import from South Korea who was raised in the United States by caucasian parents. You know, that old chestnut. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Ithaca College and a Master’s degree in Writing from Middlesex University in London. She brakes for animals, the largest of which was a deer, which sadly didn’t make it, and the smallest of which was a mouse, which did, but it took forever. Amongst her likes are Greek Mythology, rare red meat and veganism. She also enjoys girls who can think with the boys like Ayn Rand, and boys who scare the morality into people, like Bret Easton Ellis.

Book Blurb:
In this follow-up to Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas begins seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he’s asleep, and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong. These aren’t just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn’t know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn’t deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it’s time for him to return the favor.
