Blog Tour: Review of Questions in the Silence by Karen Glick @pumpupyourbook

Title: Questions In Silence
Author: Karen Glick
Publisher: CreateSpace
Publication Date: August 2011
Paperback: 340 pages
Genre: Religious, Paranormal

Description from back cover:
Ari Rothman, born with psychic abilities, has a lifelong fascination with spiritual issues. Childhood visions and intuitions combine to make her a bit of an outsider in her peer group and she turns to religion to create meaning in her life.
Ari’s childhood experiences and her strong desire to help others make her a natural psychotherapist. However, the conflict between her intuitive abilities and a more rational approach to the human psyche intensifies when her first long-term client ends his sessions unexpectedly.

My Opinion:
I had my ups and downs with this one. I liked the book in some ways, don’t get me wrong, but it just lacked luster for me. It dedicated a lot of its writing to the ins and outs of growing up in Ari’s world. On this point, I did find the story rather enlightening since I am not familiar with many of the Jewish religious ways. I was so glad that I wasn’t lost for most of the book because the author did explain most of these traditions. I felt that the issue with the missing patient should have been addressed earlier in the story, instead of feeling as if that was a side note in a book that read like a biography rather than a paranormal type book. I did enjoy Ari’s different jobs and all that led to her getting her Master’s degree. I did like the book, I just didn’t like how I felt it was somewhat drawn out with Ari’s life and less about the paranormal type story material I expected to read about, but that’s just my take. It was an interesting read though for me, as it is not something I would normally pick up.

I give Questions in the Silence by Karen Glick 3.5 of 5 stars.

Book Tour: Review Memories of Mom by Alexia E. Fraser @pumpupyourbook

Title: Memories of Mom
Author: Alexia E. Fraser
Publisher: CreateSpace
Publication Date: October 2011
Paperback: 216 pages
Genre: Memoir

Description from Back Cover:
Memories of Mom (M.O.M.) is a poignant story about an extraordinary mother, written by a daughter who loved and cared for her during her last lap of life. This story is written from the heart, and will inspire love and affection in millions of daughters and sons who will someday be caring for their elderly parents or loved ones. It is about undying love, unyielding sacrifices and compassionate role reversal. The circle of life.

My Opinion:
I, like you, looked at the title of this book and immediately thought “OMG”, get me the Kleenex! Yes, there are times during this story that you will certainly need a few. I, myself, understood a lot of the emotions that come along with taking care of a dying mother and having to be strong for her benefit. This was a lovely story that tells the tales of how the author showed her love for her mother during her dying days. The author takes you through their early years together when the daughter is taught the strength that she will later need to help her ailing mother. This is a wonderful story and anyone with a special bond with their own mother will certainly relate, as I did with my own mom. It’s a wonderful tribute to her mother and the loving bond they shared. Along the way she fills us in with details about her own life and mixes it into the story seamlessly, so we learn about the daughter also. I totally recommend this to anyone who has a great mother/daughter bond. It was a pleasure to read.

I give Memories of Mom by Alexia E. Fraser 4 of 5 Stars.
